Health and Safety Officer

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding, Northern Ireland based company, recently appointed WISH NI Ambassador for best practice Health and Safety in the waste management and recycling industry

You will join the Health and Safety Team and play a crucial role ensuring that the company is fully compliant with all relevant Health & Safety legislation and that all employees are trained and informed of up to date changes on a regular basis, ensuring our reputation for best practice Health and Safety continues to exceed expectations.

Main duties

  • Ensure full integration of all staff throughout the company
  • Assume overall responsibility for Health and Safety issues including, but not limited to, developing, implementing, and maintaining the company Health & Safety Policy and ensuring all legislative requirements are met
  • Develop and maintain risk assessment documentation and ensure all assessments are updated regularly
  • Develop, maintain, continuously improve, and monitor the Health & Safety standard within the organisation
  • Ensure effective shop floor housekeeping and the maintenance of plant and equipment in accordance with legislative Health and Safety requirements
  • Instigate and monitor the training of all company staff in required Health & Safety issues such as forklift, manual handling, fire evacuation, etc
  • Ensure a safe workplace through the monitoring and maintenance of fire alarms, fire extinguishers, plant & equipment, etc
  • Ensure an effective accident prevention and reporting system and assume the lead role in all accident investigations
  • Prepare all necessary documentation and reporting associated with areas of responsibility. Liaise with auditors and insurance companies as required
  • Meet regularly with the Factory Manager and Managing Director to ensure effective communication of Health & Safety information
  • Undertake relevant development in order to ensure up to date specialist knowledge
  • Any other duties within reason and capability associated with this role



  • A good level of secondary education demonstrating high degrees of numeracy and literacy
  • Possession of a minimum of a NEBOSH General Certificate
  • A minimum of three years Health & Safety management experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to lead and motivate staff
  • Computer literate
  • Results focused with ability to work on own initiative
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal and professional development
  • Able to work flexible hours as required
  • Able to travel

  • Experience in leading and training teams
